I built my first coup!

I built our first chicken coup! It’s pretty big at 12x19 with 6x8 housing. I put chicken wire on top and buried it in the ground.
A friend who raises chickens is going to give us three but we’re going to get a dozen more. Wish us luck.

You did a good job on the coop construction.
But the chicken wire is going to disintegrate under ground and is doing nothing to protect the chickens. It will keep them in, but not much out. You might want to consider upgrading to 1/2" hardware cloth at a minimum to secure the coop to keep them safe at night.
I would use it on the run too. And to make a 2' wide predator apron.

If rodents are prolific, burying the apron ~12" would be good.

The VIP is open to run at this time but I’ll be building a wall and a door this fall. I live in windy Iowa so I will want more protection for them.
