The tester, some will come to you some prefer not too. They usually charge a small fee and only 10% of your flock needs to be tested. If we had to take every bird we'd need a large u-haul

Correct the "basket show" is the old way of saying "chicken swap" and yes right now there will also be a poultry show. I've sent a couple of emails and as soon as I get some information I'll be very happy to post it for everyone. We haven't been to one yet... Our Vet doesn't do it, the tester needs to be certified by the State.

actually the first time you get tested, it's 100% of your flock except those under 1 yr of age. THEN it is 10% of your flock and at least ONE of every breed, according to my local tester. I have to bring my birds to him, he won't travel. the fee is like $2/bird.​

Weird. Didn't happen that way when we had the testing done our first year, but that was 4 years ago too it may have changed since than and the fee was $10.00 for the whole total no matter how many birds we brought. Wow, if's that's the case now glad we had these guys done while the flock was still pretty small

We just had hers done in May had 15 birds tested and it was $10.00. They like to do one of every breed, especially if that's a breed you are going to be showing so the breeds are listed on your test card. Don't forget waterfowl also need to be tested now.

I have not read anything but this note, a Basket show is not a swap it is judged and points to members (I believe only, but you have Cathy Hunnewells number so she can find out for you. The birds all have to be tested for NPIP. There is a tester on site of the NNEBFA and you can also hop on the band wagon and join the club. We always need people to work fairs, set ups and taking down cages/ or just trash pickup.
You may want to clarify the finer details, but it could be sales for members, in the club there main goal is to raise true to the breed poultry. They don't care for "mutts" from what I understand, Bird Fancier clubs are not into buying or selling mutts (that is why we have chickenstocks.

Nice to hear from you..........the Northern New England Bird Fanciers group meets monthly in Lewiston at the MPBN building, but for the next few months we will be meeting at the Farmington Fairgrounds(Maine). We will be having a Basket show ( an old timey name for a bird show) August 3rd at the Fairgrounds. Gates open at 8.00 a.m., and there will be a show, a swap and sell area, food tent, we are hope to have a bird testing area set up and after the show an auction of poultry and farm related items...............The registration for the show begins at 9.a.m. and fees are
$1.00 per bird, 5 birds per breed, maximum of 25 birds per person.JUdging begins at 11:00
You could call it a "chicken stock" kind of get together.......... this will be the 2nd year we have held the Basket show, last year our show was held at the Oxford fairgrounds and was very well attended with many vendors, LOTS of birds and plenty of "fowl" language spoken throughout the day.
