I CALLED ABOUT A CHICKEN SWAP FOR TRACTOR SUPPLY IN AUGUSTA MAINE

Joanie- please define chicken stock since you know sure as heck this is not going to be a chickenstock. what makes it a chickenstock vs not?
just asking since there seems to be a definate here.
the basket show I attended did have buying and selling (not a large area) and lots of chicken talk and a show. I know chickenstocks don't have shows but they do have get togethers.
so is this the difference?show vs no show?
I don't show so I'm only asking.

You are fine, I just hadn't heard about anything in regards to Lewiston. It would save me an hours travel.

Obviously I'm still lurking around, I have always loved this site, encouraged all poultry functions, like with the NNEBFA I do not show birds, but I encourage keeping stock to its breed, testing for NPIP (although I wish they kept up with the many diseases that may not kill, but effect embryo, egg production and passed transovarian) and even tho I do not buy at a lot of functions, it is not that anyone does or doesn't have quality birds, I do not have room or the physical well being to care for them.

They had been meeting at the CMP building in Farmington for club meetings, as for Lewiston- is CMP still having strike issues?

My apologies for sounding curt, you recieved information from the treasurer, you must have gotten it correctly. I just wanted to point out that its a "business" meet. A show, it is super to come, see, learn and chat, there is (?) going to be NPIP testing- not sure if its members only- testing that is.
I will not confuse information again.

My understanding of a Chickenstock is an event set up and run by BYC members.

Events stemming from BYC are/can be Chickenstock/Chicken swaps.
The NNEBFA is a club that has no affiliation with, nor supported or advertised by "BYC". The BYC events are a buzz on here, and the club may be discussed on BYC...does that make sense?
Also, not to get back into this, but I THINK all birds have to be NPIP tested to be sold (like they are supposed to be in all events in Maine) and folks do not bring agricultural animals like you can at Chickenstocks- er, at some chickenstocks.

BYC people are invited, to join in and learn, Chickenstocks are more social- that isn't even right. I don't know. I have not found the club as open on issues as BYC is/has been, but the club obides by the legal restraints of the law in the State of Maine, does not challenge them, is inspected by PETA, AG, Dept or Agricultrue and who knows what else. That is something we learned at a meeting last month.

thanks for the clarafication.
I know that TSC in skowhegan has their own " chicken swaps"
open to the public for the public, bring what you have type of deal.
I found this out when I called about setting one up and they said they just had one the weekend before.

Not a problem at all. Some of this is still very new to us, this is our Daughter's 4th year showing her birds and she loves it, the birds are sometimes her only friends. We are joining and getting involved with more clubs and learning sooo much from other exhibitors and breeders they have all been wonderful helping her get started in this wonderful world of poultry. We sure do want to start out right and follow the rules, they are in place for a good reason, to make it fun and safe for everyone involved and the birds too.

The difference between chicken swaps and chicken stocks and this is we are not a club we do not charge fees, set up or dues to join in the fun nor do our choice of holding an event charge us for use of their space. Also we are using BYC as a medium for advertising, it is not endorsed by BYC at all.
BYC graciously lets us advertise on here, but other than that and us sending new chicken owners to BYC thats as far as the connection goes.
Any and all cook outs as a result of us getting together will be pot luck and no charge for coming. If a dish is brought good if not good there will always be more than enough to go round.
and to generalize, most of the people who sell through these functions certainly have NPIP and to suggest otherwise is false.

And you just mentioned one word in your inspection list, That one word will keep me from EVER coming to a maine event. I quit going to rabbit shows for the very same reason.
that one word has no place in any agricultural setting.
It should be the H$ doing the work not that group.

there are several new england area chicken clubs
the chicken swaps we do are just that
the chicken stocks are events with cookouts, raffles that sort of thing.

hope to see some from maine come to nh for a swap or stock.
wonder who it is that puts on the swap in maine at tsc? is it a certain club? or group? anyone know?

I was told by TSC that they invite different groups to some. this weekend in skowhegan is a farm rescue and a horse rescue are both coming.

i hate to think that the poultry groups in maine are already looking down upon us. it seems no different than dog show people, etc.

why cant we all get together, we are all interested in the same thing.

crazy to me, i give
