I can not catch this squirrel, HELP!

Drowning is actually a very peaceful way to go & it is very, very fast...they fall into the bucket, take a deep breathe..and it is all done..and let's not forget, we are talking about squirrels filled with diseases who plan on destroying property. So unless op has tons of time to sit around waiting to get a perfect shot..AND they are a perfect shot with the gun...and KNOW that with their shot, they will kill and not harm, which will hurt like heck....if they are good with a gun..by all means, use it...

But don't knock it you til you understand it. This is actually a method many farmers use becuase it is so quick, no mess, no time and you can usually get a few at a time. They aren't humans, nor do they think like humans...they are rodents.

I agree. These are small critters we are talking about here, with small lungs. It doesn't take even half the time as it would a human to drown (comparatively speaking). Just my opinion anyway.

They will still try to swim until exhausted, then drown.
If you are using rat traps, then tether them so they cannot be dragged away if the critter is only pinned by a leg and not killed outright. I've seen them screwed to a post where the squirrel travels. Seems to work....

Ive tried to get husband to lie in wait on the roof and shoot it but we live in a neighborhood where that probably wouldnt go over too well lol. I really like the bucket idea, ive seen chipmunks drown them selves. Can I use regular sunflower seed oil? Thanks for all the help!

I would recommend getting a pellet gun and putting some BOSS or an ear of corn in the middle of your yard-then shoot itwhen it comes. I have a back window with no screen. I leave it up and a gun loaded once I drop the kids off from school.Atleast the squirrels are active duriing the day. There is a pile of BOSS on the drive that attracts them.My squirrels came onto the porch and actually chewed off the plastic lids that had the BOSS,so before they eat my crops I am getting rid of them.

I would pop a window screen and lure them.

I guess I'm in the minority on the issue of squirrels - I like them. In fact, I have told my squirrel and chipmunk killing friends that they can live trap them and bring them to my place to let them loose.

I haven't had any problems with squirrels in my garden or getting into my wretched little house. We do, however, have an ongoing battle over the bird feeder; and so far they are winning the battle. Keeping the squirrel feeder full of peanuts does help.

One of the few joys in my day is sitting on the deck playing a sort of football game with squirrels being my running backs, blue jays are my receivers, and the chickens are the defense. As quarterback, my goal is to either hand off a peanut to the squirrel, or complete a pass by tossing a peanut for the blue jays to pick up. The chickens will harass the squirrels as they attempt to get to and from the deck, and will try to beat the blue jays to the tossed peanuts. Every time a squirrel or blue jay makes off with a peanut my team scores; every time a chicken grabs a peanut the chickens team score.

The chickens usually win a close game, but then they out number my team. Still, it is a great way to spend the last hour or so of a summer evening.

This whole thread makes me sad!

But then again our squirrels have plenty of walnuts and corn in their feeders so they have never messed with my garden. (or my chickens)

I really enjoy seeing squirrels in the yard, they mostly stay in the woods.

If it really was a nusiance I would never think about poisoning it or drowning it!

I would shoot it and fry it for supper. Fried Squirrel and potatoes is really good...or if he is tough (older squirrel) you could make a yummy squirrel stew.

Wouldn't that ruin the veggies?

Is there anyway you can put up netting to keep the squirrles off until you catch them? Another idea, though again it is only going to work for a little while until you can trap them, is to put a big ugly rubber snake right in front of the offended veggies. I have seen a squirrle scream and run the other way when he saw it. Don't keep it in one place for more than a day, make it half a day you can, they catch on faster if you don't move it around.
