Asking because I'm going to get 4 or 5 chicks from a hatchery and I think I'm going to go with the EE breed, since I think that is what she was. She laid pretty bluish/green eggs.
From what I can see in the pic she looks just like my Belle. Belle is a pure Ameraucana that I got from a breeder of show Ameraucanas. Sounds like the same personality too. So sorry for your loss.
Does anyone know where I can get 3 or 4 Ameraucana chicks? McMurray Hatchery here in Iowa has a 25 minimum.....holy cow, I don't have a coup big enough for that many...........anyone have any ideas? I'm in Adel, Iowa and I've already searched craigslist and ebay. : (
I am so sorry for your loss. She looks like she was a very nice girl.
Would you be able to drive to the hatchery and pick them up? I wonder if they would sell in smaller lots. That is what I do, if I were to order from the feed store I would have to get 25 but if I drive there (which the hatchery is closer to me than the feed store) I can get as many or as few as I want. That is if you can leave there with a couple.

Have you tried your local feed stores? Both the ones in our area carry "Ameraucana" chicks (but I'm pretty sure they are hatchery EE's).
Also, our local store gets chick shipments in almost weekly and will 'add' your 5 special order chicks (or any number) to their hatchery order if they can-that way you can get special breeds but don't have to pay shipping or order a bunch. It would be worth asking!

I kept mine in a large dog cage with hardware cloth wrapped around it when they were 2-3-4 weeks old and above, after they outgrew the parakeet cage
I covered the plastic tray with chips. Since I only have 2 hens, it is now their moveable chicken tractor that I put in different parts of the yard everyday. They have a coop and small run as well, but this lets them access grass (I removed the plastic tray).
I remember when we gave our favorite chickens, Oscar and Heckle & Jeckyl to my grandparents. When they couldn't have them any longer, they gave them to a neighbor, whose dog got them. My grandma cried like a baby. So sad.
I don't think it is stupid, at all, to love a creature.
Good luck with any future feathered babies.
