when it's still cold out, I keep them "inside" until fully feathered. In the summer, it's pretty hot here, and I have raised them completely outside.

I put my 2 1/2 week olds in the coop this weekend.....with the heat lamp of course. I am in Massachusetts.

Oh, well we're in PA its 73 degrees outside now so im guessing about maybe 2 months could i put them outside permanently? That would probably be sometime in June or July.... No i don't have them yet.....

here in maine I put mine out at about 8 weeks. BUT it was august. If they are feathered out and they have shelter from the wind and it's not dead winter they will be fine at 8 weeks or so.

I live in Michigan, probably similar weather to you in PA.... I plan on moving mine outside when the evening temps with a brooder bulb are the same as my temps inside (using the minus 5 degrees each week theory) or at 8 weeks whichever comes first, but only if they are completely feathered as we got more snow just yesterday and plenty of rain/wind today.

I'm in Michigan and we put our chicks out when they are between 10 to 12 weeks old. The weather here changes ridiculously, and I'd rather not have chicks that are used to an ambient room temperature suffer weather and temperature shock, even with a heater in the coop. In more temperate climates, 8 weeks is usually a good age for moving out to a coop.

I keep mine in a brooder pen for the 1st week, then they go to a brooder pen in the barn for another week, both heated with a 100 watt bulb.At 2 weeks, they go to an 8'x16' outside pen with an igloo doghouse with a 75 watt bulb. The nights have gotten in the mid 30's a few times, but everyone's doing great. After 6 weeks, they get put into "population".

I'm in Indiana. I put mine in my coop in my chick area this past weekend. Mine are a month old and almost fully feathered. When it gets 65 I let themout for a little while as long as its sunny and not too windy. Otherwise I keep them in their own area with a heat light to keep it 70. I dont let mine freely go in and out until its at least 68-70 and they are fully feathered. Even then I'm watching them outside. I'm guessing I'll be playing weather man for about another month just to insure they dont get sick. Mine still dont have much on the way of neck feathers.
