So I had the stomach bug for a few days and couldn't check on my 5 silkies, but they had plenty of food and water so I wasn't worried. Finally checked on them today, after dark, and after resolving an emergency regarding another one of my pets. I reached in the egg door...and pulled out a dead, flattened, frozen silkie. My favorite pet silkie.
I was already having a bad day and on the verge of a panic attack, and I just lost it and screamed, complete mental breakdown style. A family member kinda took it from there - said the other 4 were fine and that the dead silkie appeared to have been egg bound. I just feel so awful! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED.

I am so so so so upset. She was the sweetest, nicest, prettiest chicken ever and DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE.
I'm really sorry if this post was alarming or disturbing to you, I just had to vent. I know chickens die a lot, but this one was very special to me.
