So I had the stomach bug for a few days and couldn't check on my 5 silkies, but they had plenty of food and water so I wasn't worried. Finally checked on them today, after dark, and after resolving an emergency regarding another one of my pets. I reached in the egg door...and pulled out a dead, flattened, frozen silkie. My favorite pet silkie.

I was already having a bad day and on the verge of a panic attack, and I just lost it and screamed, complete mental breakdown style. A family member kinda took it from there - said the other 4 were fine and that the dead silkie appeared to have been egg bound. I just feel so awful! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED. 😭😭😭😭😭:barnie:barnieI am so so so so upset. She was the sweetest, nicest, prettiest chicken ever and DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE.

I'm really sorry if this post was alarming or disturbing to you, I just had to vent. I know chickens die a lot, but this one was very special to me.

I'm so sorry this happened. :hugs
You mentioned a family member took it from there... Is there a reason nobody checked on them while you were ill?
My family members work a lot. What is especially frustrating is that I had to give up my first flock of 6 chickens because no one would help me take care of them. Then my family wanted more chickens - and I made them promise to help take care of them. But, of course, I ended up doing all the work, which gets us here. I'm considering giving the other four away - I don't want more chickens to take care of, but I also don't want the four I have to be cold during these New England winters.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through this. Pets are a huge part of our heart and the worst thing is to lose them.
