You won't believe this.
Yesterday evening, a man drove up in a pickup, threw a Peahen out the window, and drove away really fast.
How could someone do such a thing?
Anyway, my husband was able to get her with a net, and I dusted her with Sevin dust.
She has a limp, but it appears to be to be an old injury. It actually looks as if her leg was cut partway through, and then it healed weird and she is walking partly on the side of her foot.
There is NO guarantee I could catch her again, but is there anything else I should do? I am SO afraid that my birds will catch something from her. I usually would NEVER bring a strange birds on the place without quarentening the birds, but I have no room, even if I could catch her again. My guarentene spot is taken up with my young chicks.
I saw no sign of lice or indeed anything else, no leg scale so far as I can tell.
I am terribly upset about this, but at the same time, I think that maybe St. Francis wants me to take care of this poor bird.
My guys are free range but they stay right here mostly. Do you think there is any chance she will lead everybody away, or will she most likely just stay here?
I am still rather in shock. Am I over reacting, do you think?
