Not trying to tell you what to do but I keep an extra roo or two until I am sure the one I picked is doing his part on making fertile eggs

No problem there. There's lots of boys willing to do the job

I just have mutt coturnix so not as big as the jumbos but even so it only takes 10 birds to feed four of us for two meals. I fillet off the breasts so have boneless fried breasts with gravy for one meal and then do the same with the leg quarters. That leaves me with the carcass for stock and the livers and hearts to fry for a nibble snack.

I use to get the giblets just for me but the kids have discovered them so now I have to share

They are small and fiddly to seperate from the guts but soooo worth it!

Yes quail are small but fed right the meat is MUCH MORE SATISFIYING than, say, factory farmed chicken.

Just the breasts from 10 quail leave the four of us STUFFED!

LOVE quail, just love em

Sounds like what we did when we "dressed" our extras for dinner.

We like them with mushrooms.

I have to debone the legs too as my Hubby gets excited and forgets to eat around the bones and almost chokes.

We don't raise enough right now to have some for eating, so we enjoy the eggs made into the cutest little deviled eggs!

That is so funny about the leg bones

I cant get my hubby to eat my quail at all
hu.gif
but the kids and I eat them as often as a batch gets ready

The body bones boiled up with onions and garlic are fab heated up for breakfast with a hot cuppa tea. And best of all the kids are at school so I get them all to myself. Its amazing how much meat is left when you take off the legs and breasts. The wings that most people cut off have a good two/three bites each never mind around the wishbone.

My kids LOVE to make wishes on quail wish bones
