I can't even get an interview... NEW TWIST Post #107 !!!!

I need to read through the whole thread and I am working on it! I don't want to take this off topic and wonder if a new thread would be possible. I'm considering trying to turn my little farmette, i.e. chicken flock, garden, meat goats into a small business. Is anyone doing here all ready doing this? I'm in my forties and have been a stay at home mom for too long and am finding the work world hard to get back into. I've always taken care of our farmette for us but am now considering make it more self sustainable and it possible profitable!

I'd love to hear some success stories and while it's sad, even the failure stories are educational. I'm looking in to returning to school and taking some business and marketing classes, thought that might be helpful? If nothing else it would make ME more marketable in the work world?

I wish everyone sucess out there! While the job market is so competitive we still, in the end, only have our community, family and friends to provide us support. I remain ever supportive of those around me!

I just saw this was back up, no, I still have not found a job. I am talking to everyone I know that might know of something. I have had people critique my resume' and I have made the changes suggested. At this point I am willing to work one or two days a week just to get some extra $$ coming in.

I've been following this thread from time to time, may I ask what field you are in? I know it's in here, I just don't know where

The last several years I have worked for Industrial Supply companies, I have extensive background in Customer Service, Sales and Sales Management. I have also run small offices, and my last job, I basically ran the business, it was a Tack Store. I did everything from sales/customer service to website maintenance, merchandising, ad layout, you name it I did it.

Being in Industrial Sales, I have a varied knowledge on Industrial and MRO supplies, Cutting Tools, and Shop Machinery. The last 5 years I worked for one company ( I was there 10 years) I was in the Technical Department, I answered questions on Machinery and Machine Tools.

I'm not wanting to disillusion you but I've been out of work for 5 1/2 years now. After the first year and a half, I had to file for bankruptcy. After another year of trying with no callbacks, I just gave up. Blessedly my wife was able to find a good job and my brother retired and moved in with us and he helps out so God is providing. I am considering getting into the egg business but space and a small scale operation will probably limit what I could do.

Lockedhearts, let us know if you have any luck. We are praying for you.

I applied for a job with a place called Omni Communications. I had to do an online typing test and call a number and do a voice test. I apparently did well on both as they called me Friday afternoon for an interview monday. The down side, it is shift work, as it is a 24/7 answering service. I do plan to tell them going in that I have 3 certain Saturdays that I must have off. I also talked to someone I know today, she used to work there, she says pay is good, but they like to have people "on call" and if they call you in and you can't come in, they fire you, no questions, no excuses.

I really need a job, but I am not real pleased , if this is the case about this. I will work shifts and give 110% but if I am off work and get a call, if I can go in, I will, but if I can't , I do not think being fired is right. I have heard you start at minimum wage, but after 2 weeks go up to about $10 hour. It is only about a 20 minute drive for me as well.

I will go to the interview, but I plan to ask a lot of questions and they will know up front about my days off I need. I made a comittment to our Saddle Club, two years ago, I am the President, I have to be at those shows. My feeling is, if I tell them going in and they do not like it, I probably do not want to work there

If it's written into your contract they can fire you for not going in, but if it's not written in they can't. Unfortunately "at will" means they can fire you at any time and don't have to give you a reason. The upside? It's a paycheck!
