Do you see new feather pins where the old feathers fell off?
If you see a bunch of new tiny feathers (often called pins or spikes) then its probably just a molt.
If you can see bumps in the skin that look like they are missing something, or are red then its likely plucking.
The feather shaft is well attached to the skin, and if plucked out its not fun but will grow back.
The molting feathers are kind of pushed out, or dropped off to make room for the new feather coming up underneath.
Kind of like baby teeth.
Plucked feathers take a longer time to recover.
Feathers that are snipped off or ripped but not pulled out of the skil wont come back until the next mold cycle.
These are much larger than the pins or spikes that come out in a molt.
