I can't find any Barred Rocks!

I've tried three times now to get some Barred Rock chicks locally (SF Bay Area) at different places, but they either sell out within HOURS or the shipments arrive dead. Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a couple? I have four month-old chicks right now (of other breeds) and I have my heart set on two BRs, but maybe it just isn't meant to be just now...

Have you tried Half Moon Bay Feed & Fuel?

Which places have you tried? I know there's a place in Gilroy somewhere also, but haven't been able to find others.

HMB's shipment came in last Thursday and I couldn't get down there. I should try calling them. I'm not sure if there's anyplace left in Petaluma that sells chicks directly? I'd just order some, but I only want two!

Oh, I've also tried the Alamo feed store, and the feed store in Pleasant Hill, and Biofuels Oasis in Berkeley (theirs were gone probably in a matter of minutes...).

I've been thinking about that -- or maybe there's the stew pot in store for someone... (not sure I'm going to go there though).

My local feed store will add chicks (including specific breeds) to their order and hold them if a customer pre-pays. Maybe you could get your folks to do the same.

You probably don't want to buy from Half Moon Bay Feed and Fuel anyway. Last time I went there, the chicks had HUGE lumps of poop stuck to their bottoms. It was sickening.

I think you should go with My Pet Chicken. I've never heard a bad thing said about them.

Thanks, you guys - I just found Nature's Hatchery thanks to the banner up above here, and I'm thinking that's the way I'll go! I'll probably wait until the four ladies I already have are out of the brooder and into the coop (whenever my dear husband has time to finish it up...). Have I mentioned recently how much I love BYC??
