It may be the time of the year. Many people are trimming down their stock for the winter so there may be a surplus currently.

Yep, I'm afraid trimming down is what's happening! I wouldn't mind feeding them through the winter if I had a coop to where I could separate the boys from the girls--sort of a bachelor pad! But I don't have anything to use for that.

I'm going to check with the 4H now.

put them for free on here with pics, it seems to be working for many people. Heck I'm about to pay 50.00 in shipping for a roo I just bought on here for 4.00!

Try posting a notice at your feed store, and/or talk to the workers there. They may know folks who would like your roos for their coops or for their table. I'm not trying to disparage your roos, but just because a bird is purebred it doesn't mean it's show quality or good breeding stock.

And I'm often hesitant to take other people's birds, even if they're free, unless I really know them well. Otherwise I'll have the bother of quarantining them for 4-6 weeks before I'll feel comfortable putting them in my coops or in my mouth.

This is just one of the harsh realities of chicken-keeping, the fact that about 90% of all roos have their purpose on a plate. I think every chicken keeper needs to have a Plan B firmly in place right from the start for any unwanted roos, no matter where they obtain their new stock.

I wish you luck in ridding yourself of these roos.

Hi! I'm a very new noobie, but I thought I'd mention that I read the Charlottesville Virginia craigslist ads. It's pretty active, and I don't think anyone here has fabulous roos available like you have. I'd come to Parkersburg to get your roos if I had any kind of set up for them. That list serves a pretty wide area. Maybe that could help you.

Anyone else amazed at the price for ONE fertile Black Copper Marans egg on My Pet Chicken? (Not saying they over charge, commenting on the rarity of the birds.) Those chickens are so gorgeous, and their eggs are so beautiful too. I covet them, I confess, I do.

I'm in the same boat. I'm in California, across from San Francisco. I have two Mille Fleuer roosters, one white crested Black Polish, one Olde English, and one "mutt", cross between a silver Sebright and an Olde English, and cannot find homes for them. Anyone interested??? I just cannot bring myself to put them down.
