I love Black Australorps!

Wouldn't a flock of Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps look cool? Of course, I'm too far gone with MY chicken addiction to accomplish that task; my flock is comprised of all sorts of breeds and sizes. I just like variety. And they're all so cute as chicks and all so nifty as they grow up and develop their personalities.

This is my latest favorite chicken - psst! Don't tell the others!

She's a bantam Dark Brahma. Her feathering detail is gorgeous.

(I have over fifty chickens, got chicks in brooders, and eggs in more than one incubator.)

Don't worry I am the same!! Started off with 3 bantams for eggs and now have 12 chickens, a silkie sitting on 4 eggs and just waiting on my other silkie to go broody so that i can out more under her too!!

Mountainman laughed at me because my reason for getting 5 more hens was because I lost a hen last week. I said I have to get 5 because 1 would be lonely and I can't put it with the other 25 baby chicks since they are so much older now. so that makes 40 chickens (chicks included) However 11 are a mothersday present for my mom.

7- BA
3- RIR
2-Barred Rock
3-Light Brahma
13- Jersey Giants All roos and we will have to eat them at some point

I saw 3 of these at the flea market on Sunday, 2 hens and 1 roo (not bantams though). The man selling chickens had just acquired them and they were not for sale. The chickens he did have for sale looked very ill and it made me sick to the stomach realizing the possible fate of those gorgeous creatures.

And those 5 BA will turn into 100.

Tha's chicken math for you...we started out with 10 BRs and now we have 32 (I think) chickens, 19 Coturnix quail (30+ in the incubator) , and in the spring we'll be getting turkeys.

I don't have an incubator yet but am going to let the hens hatch some babies till then. Plus I got a pair of pekin ducks last fall and now I'm getting an egg a day from her.

Help I'm surrounded by chicken pushers!
