what it means when theres a blood ring around a newly set egg. I got 12 shipped to me, and 5 of them have just a red ring around part of the yolk. this is on day 5 of incubation. I am getting good veining and dark spots on the other 7, so whats with the 5? is there something I could have done to change this or is this the norm for shipped eggs? FYI this is my first attempt at incubating.

IIRC, the blood ring is usually a sign that something went wrong or bacteria got into the egg. It happens- even to eggs you've taken from your own back yard.

Blood rings indicate bad eggs of early demise. If it's only day 5, I might would wait another 3-4 days to make sure, but if they look that much different than the other eggs, toss 'em. It's a common occurrence in shipped eggs.
