Yeah I would rather shoot them with a bow "illegally or not" than drown them. 

 Raccoon and coyote may be taken on private property by a property owner or designee all year if they are doing or about to do damage on private property. A license or written permit is not needed.

It says I can shoot it with a 22 but I dont know about that being in the city

I think you might have some disgruntled neighbours if you use a gun. I don't know how close they are mind you. Your choice ultimately. I would never encourage anyone to break the law. I wonder what is so offensive about using a crossbow?

I don't have a crossbow lol..My neighbors are weird anyway if I called the guy next door & told him I caught a coon he would stand there & clap until I killed it

. I am really close to my neighbors & we live like a block away from the police dept

. Other than that I don't care how it dies as long as it doesn't come back. I really dont have alot of options on what kinda weapon to dispatch them with. Other than a fischer dispatch pole it costs 150.00

I don't envy you. It just seems you're out of $$$ no matter how you look at it! At least a blowgun is relatively cheap. $40-50. Don't know what a wildlife exterminator charges. Consider a move to the country? My hubby's commute is about 1 1/4 hours each way for work. It's worth it for him to come home to a big, beautiful country property.

yes, I'm enjoying this thread myself. I am not a gun owner (yet) - but my father in law, who lives on the property with us, is... and he's very good with his .22. He's getting up there in age, though, so I think I need him to teach me a thing or two. Thought about "professional" lessons, as I've never really shot a gun. Ok, when I was about 17 someone took me out to shoot some kind of long barreled handgun and it kicked back so hard I decided then and there that guns weren't for me. Well, I have grown up and purchase a small parcel of land and have learned that I need to know how to properly and quickly kill these predators. Opinions? Take a "real" class, or let my father in law take me to a range and teach me? Obviously the FIL option is cheaper.. but I want "proper" training... input welcome. I caught a possum last night.. guess he'll probably meet the same fate.. not sure if they are as dangerous to my chickens, but he walked in for some marshmallows, so...

I would go with have the father in law train you. My father tought me every thing I know bout guns an I took one of them classes an they teach you nothing (ok nothing compared to my father )

A knife works great. No "projectile" with a knife. Or a axe. Just hit it behind the head in the neck on the spine.

Have you been the PD to see what you "could" use? They might be able to recommend something

I have to ask, what exactly do you have out that these coons are coming for. They are there for a reason. If its not shelter, its food. It seems you have a raccoon magnet.

I live along some great habitat for coons and do not have a problem. My peacocks and chickens have good fencing for protection though. If I poured cat food or corn out, coons would be all over it the first night. Keep your feed locked up. I hate coons with a passion, and did a lot of extra work to be sure my birds were safe. I can trap 30-40 raccoons and spotlight another 20 here every fall and not put a dent in them. Surprisingly, with that many in the 50 acres here I don't have them around the house and digging in the trash.

We have nothing out I feed my chickens first thing and I put the bowls away at night. I dont over feed I only put a scoop of feed down in the morning and thats it I let them free range the rest of the day. We use to have open feeders but I have taken all that away in March.

we have had to put up lots of fencing and several different locks on the coop to give those raccoons a run for their money...they are too smart! we set traps and catch them at least 1 a week
