i caught a skunk... " HE GOT AWAY" !!!

raccoons can make good pets, but I don't think you are technically supposed to take them from the wild. My friend from 4-H had one, but she couldn't let it leave the house at all or bring it to public places because they cannot receive rabies shots like dogs or cats. If hers was ever to even go near someone, law states they must test it for rabies.

When my mom was a kid they had pet skunks, my grandpa would desent them. I've read they still have an oder, but it's something like with a ferret, so it's tolerable and probably not to bad if you keep them clean. My mom said some would be naturally very friendly, and really like a cat, and others would just not take to the taming (out of the same litters in many cases) and would never really be friendly. Good luck with whatever you deside to do, can't wait to see the pics!

welll little skunky got out of his cage last night and is back in the wild were he belongs. I guess skunks shouldn't be pets next time i catch them i will just let them go...

This is a skunk name Polo , he belongs to a friend of mine, he was descented when very young.... a very nice pet , but is not as friendly as a cat........some wild left in him......but I wouldnt hesitate to have one as a pet if caught young enough and you are careful to remember he /she was and always will be a "wild" animal in a sense..... UGH don't get close .........you will be sprayed.....not sure how to avoid that in order to take it in for descenting though... good luck and keep us posted

Skunks are cute. We had a mother raise her babies in our barn, and never bothered our chickens at all. But the next year (and I don't know if it was the same mama)...the mother skunk raised babies in our barn again but was also killing and eating our hens, while she had her babies in the barn. So be forewarned, normally skunks just eat eggs and it's no big deal.. and also eat mice and rats, like our first mama skunk did, and that's a good thing....but you might want to make sure your coop or wherever you keep your chickens is predator-proofed, so the skunk doesn't decide to make a den in your coop or wherever you're keeping your flock.

haha I hear skunks make wonderfull pets. It's probably a good thing it got away, Wild animals never make good pets if they arent raised by hand...

I have had many racoons in the past, All orphans I raised...But never in my life would I consider taking a wild raised one....It would be vicious. haha

We had pet skunks when I was young. I remember them being very friendly and they were litter box trained. I don't remember what happened to them but I think they died of natural causes.

I also remember an old neighbor of my sisters. They had 4 or 5 skunks. This couple was older and never had children. These skunks were their children. They had their own bedroom and they made them gourmet meals. In my teenage mind, they were crazy.

I remember one of them died and these people were just grief stricken. They spent thousands of dollars on a casket and a burial for it.

I think I have a picture of my old pet skunk around here somewhere. I will see if I can dig it up.

Take care,

Tami
