I could smother him with a pillow! UPDATE (GOOD/BAD)

Are there respite services you can tap into? Someone to come and take him on field trips or something?
Could Dial A Bus take him on a joy ride?

I'm so sorry you're going through the stress of this. It's so hard to care for family like that.

I hope he can find ways to be occupied safely (and without costing you new things)

Me and mother took care of my grandpa. We were constantly bringing him back in the house because he was mowing the lawn with thermals and a coat on in the 90+ degree heat. We had to watch him, because he would hide food and try to eat it when it was spoiled. He would stand up in the chair to stick his finger in the light sockets, because he said electricity was good for the heart, he occasionally fell out of the chair. He would turn the gas on to the stove and forget the matches, he was forever loosing eyebrows, I am surprised he never burned the house down.

Oh, what I wouldn't give for just one of those days back. I miss him dearly. Material things can be replaced, a person can not. Love him while you have the chance and enjoy life with him.

This is really a good idea! Something to keep his mind and hands busy, but nothing that is a threat to your lawn equipment(or his safety).

to you. My grandmother will be 99 this Dec and was living by herself until 2 weeks ago. She fell and fractured her hip. She is now in a nursing home/rehab center. She wants to go home so bad ~ time will tell if she can.

Make sure he keeps some kind of identity info on him at all times. Maybe a dog tag type thing he can wear, or a bracelet of some type in case he decides to take a walk one day, and forgets how to get back home.

He can 't walk, he can only go in his wheelchair. Of course that don't mean he want try it!!!!

For sure hide the keys, and find him a hobbym he needs to do something productive, maybe a garden patch he can be in charge of watering? or building bird feeders for the parks dept?

The problem with the hobby thing is that he always goes to far with it. In his mind, he has all the motor skills he did when he was 20. But in reality, he don't need to use power tools or sharp things.
Plus, he is alone most of the day because me and mama work.

come to think of it, Saddina don't have a good track record with power tools and sharp things. !!!!!

Maybe not powertools, but a simple hammer and saw birdhouse? hmm..

You don't know my papaw. He could tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer.
