Based on my chicken breeds and age, can anyone give me some hope as to when my chickens will start laying? or at least a shoulder to cry on because this wait is killing me and I am beginning to think my chicken are "egg laying challenged". [IMG] I have 7 Light Brahmas, 2 leghorns, 2 red sexlinks and 2 buff orplingtons. They were all hatched the same day in the second week of April. I think I read somewhere that Light Brahmas lay much later than the average breed because all the energy goes to building the above average body size. Is that true Braham owners?

Are your brahmas hatchery stock or breeder stock?
I have LF brahmas, all hatchery stock. The first of my lights to start was 19 weeks old. Most of the rest of my hens ( light, buff & dark) started shortly afterwards - in the 24 to 26 week range. Two of my darks waited until they were 9 1/2 months old to start. My darks, though hatchery stock like the rest, are closer to the standard for LF brahmas vs. my lights and buffs.

Your chickens are almost nighteen weeks if I did the caculating right mine were 18 weeks the 4th of August and Sophie my hen layed her first egg on the 10th. She layed 2 days then skipped a day and now I get one egg per day my other 2 are still not laying and I got them at the same time? Are any of yours doing the egg song? After they start that they will lay soon!!!! But I know how you feel I didn't think mine would ever lay. We actually had breakfast yesterday with our first four eggs from Sophie our hen and it was awesome:thumbsup

White leghorns? What do their combs look like? I have 4 of them and 1 started laying at 16.5 weeks, the others havent started but their combs are really red and they should be laying within the next week. Everyone else should be closer to 20 to 24 weeks.

Early April hatch with my girls and no eggs either. I'm stuck in the any minute time holding pattern... The recent heat wave isn't doing me any favors either. I just do what I can to keep them happy and attempt to be patient while imagine all the many ways to enjoy the fruits of their labor... so to speak.
