i couldnt believe i had come across this website

Here is the poem I wrote when I first had my rescued battery hens........ hope you like it..............

“The Scruffy Fluffy Butts”

We started out so fluffy,
But soon became so scruffy.
Trapped in cages, no room to move,
No daylight, no air, Just food, food, food.

Beneath our feet, no warm soft straw,
Just wire that hurts, and our feet are sore.
Another peck, and again one more,
My back and neck are feeling so raw.

“Lay more eggs” that’s all we hear.
“Come on girls, your costing me dear”
We feel so crowded, our heads in a spin,
The noise is deafening, why can’t the lights be dim.

But what’s that noise, who is here,
Could it be that death is near?
NO, it’s friends we hear them say,
We have come to save the day!!

Released from our cages, our rescuers gentle,
Come on girls, now don’t go mental.
Don’t be afraid, the end is in sight,
For you are going to see daylight!

Your new homes are ready,
Easy now, just go steady.
Freedom at last, freedom to roam,
Freedom is an upright comb.

So we are taken to a place,
By a Lady who says she loves our face.
We feel a breeze, so soft, so warm,
And what is this? Lady says its corn!

Time to rest our new mum said,
For she is feeling truly blessed.
Just settle down, all is fine,
Believe at last that you’re all mine.

So come my little Scruffy Butts,
You’ll soon become the Fluffy Butts.

We have some ex-batt hens and when we got them I was told that they probably wouldn't lay anymore...man, that went right through me...they are here with me and can free range and do what they want...I do get eggs from time to time but one doesn't lay at all. They have become my friends and I'm sure they appreciate the fact that I don't expect anything from them. Miss Daisy is quite entertaining and enjoys leading everyone to the favorite spots to dine.

I have to agree with English Mum...if they have wings they need to be allowed to spread them.
