However, I would try it again. Next time I would apply a very very thin layer of wax. I dripped it on this time, next time I think I would kinda rub it on. I think the chicks are not strong enough to crack the egg open with the was on to thick.
I used elmer's glue on one recently that got "munched" by the lid to my incubator. It did not damage the membrane - just the shell. I did have to help that chick hatch, though. It was trying to pip right around the glue line. (The damage was bad enough that I used 3 coats of glue. Some ran down the egg and dried but I didn't catch it in time to dry all of it off.) I can't tell that bird from the others now.
Awww sorry to hear. We had one crack and put wax on it. A couple days before hatch day out came a beautiful baby chick, so it can be done. Here's hoping you wont have to try it again though!!
I think it would work, but the trick is making sure you use the thinnest amount of wax possible so that the chick can get out of the shell come hatching time.
If I crack one next time - - - I am more than willing to give it another try.
