Well, folks, I have done it. I completely lost my mind. I am now certifiably insane.

Why, you ask??

Well --

I ordered a brand new Sportsman 1502 today.

I've never even hatched a single egg in my life, so of course the first thing I do is rush out and spend hundreds of bucks on a humongous incubator.

Told ya. I'm insane.

But I plan on having fun!

Thanks!

I do at least have a logical-sounding excuse for getting it.

You see, I have fallen in love with bantam araucanas. I now have 7 hens, and I intend to incubate every darned egg they lay. And, even in the depths of winter, I'm getting quite a few eggs (relatively speaking) -- more than a dozen a week.

Hopefully I'll be setting eggs every week. So, if I got the small incubators, I'd have to get multiple incubators -- to handle both incubation and hatching. That means more bucks to buy, more electricity to run, more instability in conditions, AND more maintenance.

But with the Sportsman, I can set eggs every week AND hatch -- all in the same machine. More stable, less maintenance, less worry.

So you see, I really needed it. Really!!

From where I sit today, with two bators, one dedicated to being a hatcher, and needing more room to set eggs, your approach seems oh so logical.

I think you did the right thing. Why start small and have to put out more money to get where you want to be.

Hatching eggs is so addicting though. If I have one spot left in mine I have to find something to put in there.. I wouldn't want to waste any space. If I had any larger than a 42 egg capacity bator, I would be in a world of trouble.....
