I gave my somewhat aggresive but loved anyway rooster away. I gave him to a friend who lets his free range anywhere they want on his land. He has a barn that they can go into for egg laying and roosting. I have always had him in a run. I know with him that he would have been happy with the green grass and ALL the ladies available. (That was the main problem. WAY to much overmating.) I would assume that when night fell that he would follow the other ladies into the barn. He wouldn't know on his own of course but wouldn't he follow the others when they went? What do you think?

I am a little worried. I knew that there was no other choice and that he would be very happy with the tons of ladies available since there is more there than I have and the wonderful grass but I just don't like the thought of him being confused or not knowing what to do and I know he is going to have to teach those girls that he is boss. I just worry. SO please tell me your opinion or experience. I will be asking my friend when I see him but till then...

Well, if he were introduced in the daytime, he probably would've gotten used to hanging around them, so I suppose he would follow them.

Wishing him luck!

HEE HEE, don't worry as soon as he sees those ladies they won't leave his sight! He will immediately take on the job as "SOLE PROTECTOR"!! Sounds like he found paradise!!

I went through something similar (rehomed my roo...five girls wasn't enough for him, so they were losing feathers), and I had similar worries as you. Mine with to a farm with 12 freeranging hens. It will take a week or two for your roo to assert himself (he'll probably get picked on a bit at first), but he will be fine. He'll hang with the girls, get henpecked a bit, and then be in hog heaven within a few weeks!

I knew that he would get picked on here and there but I know he can handle that. Besides, my hens tried to do that to him anyway. I was just worried that he wouldn't go with them at night and he would be outside alone. That would make me so upset but after what ya'll said and your experiences it made me feel so much better and reassured me that my big roo can take them on! Thanks yet again.
