I helped out my step dad and cousin for a while today and I knew he does p-fowl so while we were getting his new boat setup he invited me to take a look at his setup. It was great! I asked him if he's used an incubator before and he told me no, his p-fowl lay, but they've never done that before. I offered to incubate his stock for him, and he thought that would be a great idea. Since he's never done quail we talked about how I'm learning and getting started. Then I told him of the outdoor setup I was wanting to put in for them and he said "Shoot, if I would have know that, I've got a small flight pen you could have. Here load it up on the trailer and take it home.

GASP! It's six foot wide, eight foot long and six feet tall. After setting it up I errrrrrrr..... ya. I've got 12 out there right now playing and boy do they love the freedom to fly around. For now I took 1/2 of a dog crate I had out back and put it in for them to get out of the wind and to keep the food dry. Going to see how well these pics turn out but here they are!!!!!

I think my roo's love it for sure because they started crowing immediately and fat bas$ard (Ok, I did name a couple of birds) is running around trying to mount everything that moves

The wire is only on the ground in the corners and is about 2" above the ground in most areas. I am so happy I could bust! PS, My yard was quite messy there because I left all my transport cages were they were and was running out of light.

THAT IS SOO COOOL!!!! Just prooves how addicted you are

I got my 7 hole pens today, so that's going to expandmy potential flock to a drastic number! LOL!

I didn't necessarily want to do colony breeding, but these guys are sooooooo funny now that they have freedom. Hoping to have a good hatch on the 20th, I've got 40 some eggs in the bator, and since 20 came broke via usps, the breeder offered to send me 50 more as replacements. I will definitely send good feedback to this guy!!!

I also have some chicken eggs in the incubator, and know a family a little down in their luck. I told them that I may have some Excess meat birds coming my way for them. Of course I was rewarded with promises of more raw milk (god i love that stuff). All those chickies cost me is a couple of days of collecting and using up the emptyness of my incubator right now.

PS, you are converting us all to the dark side by indoctrinating us into quail. They are fun to watch, they sing and coo to us, and of course, they taste great!!!!

maybe you'll get your neighbors intersted in raising coturnix for their own use too!

Just thought i'd take a stab and suggest someone ELSE become coturnix obsessed

actually I dont have any neighbors. the only one I technically have is gone 90% of the time, and he owns hundreds of acres that surround my land from the sides to the back.

On a good note though, this makes it a sure bet that nobody is going to complain with the "crowing" of these guys lol
