Well, I carefully placed a queen size sheet in the back of my Toyota Highlander to go get some hay for my horses. (My farm truck stopped running, so I am having to use my soccer mom vehicle to get hay for a while)
I apparently wasnt all that careful, because I closed the hatchback on the sheet, and now the darn thing wont open.

I tried tugging at it, but I did a heck of a job covering the hook-thing that keeps the hatchback down, and it wont move. I thought about cutting the sheet, but I am worried that might make it even more difficult to get out. So, I had to bring my hay home last night on the roof of my car, and of course the neighbors saw my arrangement and found it very amusing...lol
Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on how to get the sheet out of the hatchback-hook-thing other than taking it to a mechanic?

hey...I've done stupid things like that! woo hoo!

i have a mini van and i put the keys down on the bumper and shut it...and then it shut with the keys crammed in there and the latch didn't want to open.

with a little bit of playing around...I finally got it.

is the hatchback automatic? if so, could someone keep hitting the switch and someone else keep trying to push down and pull up on the back to try to free it? maybe use a flat head screw driver if you have any kind of room at all in there to mess with?

I don't know...hope you can free it.

me,
g

The above post sounds like something reasonable to try. You might try it from outside the vehicle, and then try it from inside the vehicle.

I don't feel so stupid now! I am the queen of this process. Ok tell me what sort of vehicle you have. I have a dodge grand caravan. Here is what I have to do. unlock the hatch from inside. THEN pull up on the handle and PUSH in at the key lock area. so you are pulling up and pushing in at the same time. When I do this it gives the lock a break by pushing it in and you are also unlatching the door. Try it and see if that works!

lol, i thought i was the only one who did stuff like that!! well, have someone on the inside pull the sheet , while your on the outside trying to mess with it & get it open, just keep trying, it will eventually get open, or try yahoo answers, they have mechanic's on there that might have a better way............good luck!!

Cut the sheet and pull as much out as you can. Try it from inside
and out.

Then, put pressure on the door like you were trying to close it while
pulling the latch or turning the key to open it. You may have to wrestle
it but it should open.
