It was only a few days ago I had responded to a post here about ducks starting to lay eggs... I mentioned something about the fact that I did not expect eggs from my young Indian Runners for a few months yet as we are heading into cooler weather now..

I got up early this morning to travel to a poultry auction..And got home to find 1 gorgeous new little egg out in the yard!!

I could hardly believe it was a real egg- as I was sure I would be waiting patiently through winter before I could hatch any more Indain Runners this year.. Im so excited for my little girl- Well I think I know which one laid the egg- I do have 4 ducks old enough to lay now......And to think...She was nearly taken to the auction today - She is definitely staying around now.

And I have another one this morning too!! It too was just lai randomly in the yard- so I will now have to orgnise some nesting boxes with encouragement for the young lady to lay there. Being so new to the egg laying game- she will get the hang of things eventually I guess. But for now I am am just so happy to be recieving eggs so unexpectedly.

My ducks started in late January (heated garage). She laid 5 eggs. These are her first eggs. None hatched and they kicked them around like hocky pucks.

Another lay started in late March which she has made a nest from straw (again in the garage). , so I am assuming a learning curve?? Maybe same with you? Have faith!
