I didn't quarentine :( Advice Please!

The best thing to build immunity is exposure. Years ago large farms would expose birds to certain illnesses and have the whole flock become immune to it. Now days there are meds available for certain illnesses and you need to diagnose the correct illness to treat it. I am a firm believer in antibiotics, I treat them once, it kills or cures. Overall you have a healthier flock. You keep them too clean and your enjoyment will be your time treating them for every illness out there. As far as carriers go unless you raised them from eggs potentially all chickens are carriers, realistically. Someone suggested vitamins which is the first thing I would do. If you use antibiotics follow the directions to the letter. I raise close to 1000 birds a year and maybe lose 1 to 2 percent.

Oxine AH:
•Tested and proven effective against a variety of bacteria, fungi and viruses, including E.coli, salmonella, parvovirus and more
•Eliminates odors by killing the bacteria that causes them
•May be used everywhere in animal care facilities and confinements
•Can be used for fogging or spraying

Oxine AH has been tested and proven effective against a variety of bacteria, fungi and viruses, including E.coli, salmonella, parvovirus and more. Utilizes chlorine dioxide chemistry to eliminate odors and kill the bacteria that causes them. May be used everywhere in animal care facilities and confinements. Also can be used for fogging or spraying. With an ultra high activity level, it should be used in low concentrations.

If you use the Activator it can't be used on the birds and I belive you need a mask and gloves to use it.

But what if its a virus? Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections. I'm thinking I'm going to have to order all of this! Our farm stores don't carry any of it! Since you are in western oregon, you may know.... Does costal carry oxine, vitamins/electrolytes, it any other decent poultry products?

If it is a respiratory problem its a virus antibiotics will not help. Do a search on respiratory issues. You will find a lot of great posts about this problem. Some people who do treat then have a closed flock those who choose to cull their flock and start over. If you have another that dies then I would take it for necropsy You need to find out what you dealing with first.

Between Coastal and Wilco they should have it. If it is a virus there isn't much to do, just try to prevent secondary illnesses with isolation. Most viruses run thier course and the bird is fine probably more times than you really are aware of. Wild birds are the biggest spreader of harmful viruses and not much you can do about that. The lymphatic system is basically your only hope for viruses and if they are young chickens they will most likely be fine if it indeed is a virus.

Thanks for all the replies!

Has anyone ever used GSE on chickens? We use it like crazy in my house with the kids and ourselves..I dont see why you could not use it with them..I guess you'd have to put it in their water.
