Today I found a Pug (prob a mix) outside of work no collar, nothing!!....so I called all shelters and no reports of it missing. I decided to take it to the shelter...on the way there he looked at me and I swear he gave me the worse puppy eyes ever!!!...I tured right around and took him home. Tomorrow we'll be going to the vet to get him scanned to see if he has a microchip...if not....do you want PUG?! lol.....We'll either find him a good home or keep him...what's another dog!? lol

how can you say no to this face!!!? I just couldn't take him!

a responsible breeder doesn't do ANY of the things you just described.

They have a plan behind their breedings and are working for a specific purpose. They have homes lined up, often before the dog is even bred. They have a contract that requires that the dog go back to them at any time for any reason. Some even microchip the dogs in THEIR name in case a bad owner slips through the interview process and later dumps the dog at the pound. The chip will come up with the breeder's name and they will be contacted and will go get the dog.

A lot of people who buy from breeders do so because they want a specific dog for a specific purpose. Take LGDs. Yes you might find a mix at the shelter who MIGHT grow up to be a decent guardian and will be healthy. Or you can stake the deck in your favor by going to a reputable breeder who health tests all their dogs and works their dogs.

My next pup will be another WL GSD because I plan to do Schutzhund. If my choice was no dog (because breeding was banned) or a shelter dog, I would be getting no dog. Lots of other people who purchase dogs feel the same way. Some people just don't want a dog with an unknown history and there is nothing wrong with that.

All of the banning and pleading in the world isn't going to turn a bad OWNER into a good one. On the same note, why do "bad" breeders breed? because bad owners who don't bother to do their research give them money.
