I miss her so much. I think about her every day. Before I got our new fence, she used to go on her larks out and about, foraging in the little field behind us.Welcome! Aawww! Penny is a beautiful story! You gave her a chance at a fairy tale life till the wicked raccoon came along... Hope you were able to get rid of him.
It hurts me to have to coop my chickens up when I'm not around. Chickens are so free-spirited. I think it's in there soul to free range.I miss her so much. I think about her every day. Before I got our new fence, she used to go on her larks out and about, foraging in the little field behind us.
There are surprisingly high numbers of everything from foxes and raccoons to hawks and owls right here in the city. The best thing to do is be vigilant and plan, I think. Penny came to us a free hen, and was NOT into the idea of a coop, not in any way. It was an ongoing struggle.
In the end, she did accept the lean-to I built, but I knew every night it wasn't enough.
Even getting her to this new home in Mesa was an adventure. She never wanted to be touched at all! So I found two young people who grew up on a farm, and I told them: $100 cash to whoever gets her here safely! I can't leave her behind! LOL
I know what you mean! They do love it. It's much safer in our yard here, but only from dawn to dusk. Penny didn't care what time it was.It hurts me to have to coop my chickens up when I'm not around. Chickens are so free-spirited. I think it's in there soul to free range.
