Further south I have read they mate and lay all year round. Like Texas and in Florida.

Aren't they native to Florida? Mine are pretty lazy in the winter.. wait let me rephrase that, they're always lazyFurther south I have read they mate and lay all year round. Like Texas and in Florida.
Nope not native anywhere in the states all feral. Only one small area of Texas where they are even protected those are the ones consider migratory. Sad but true many places hate them so much they are killed only because they exist.and considered a nusiance
I know they do have such sweet personalities. I have had them since 2004 and love them to pieces. I have 1 female that will be 13 this coming spring.
She really is active, she has arthritis I am guessing in her hip but I have her on glucosamine now hoping that will help. So far 12 has been my oldest. Their legs wear out before their bodies. My one drake who was a month shy of 12 when he died wore his legs out chasing other Muscovy drakes all over their property. Now I only have 1 Muscovy drake and he only goes after the gander.![]()
