Misfit animals. I just don't know how they know to come here.

We have often thought about naming our farm Misfit Farms because somehow all the unwanted animals in the area, somehow make it to me house.

Here is the newest misfit. He showed up here yesterday, came home with Willis! He is very sweet, obviously raised by humans. He comes right up and is not afraid of us all. My daughter named him Nick. St. Nick I guess with it being Christmas.
So now we have Gretchen (the goose), Willis (Khaki Campbel) and now Nick and he is a mallard.

..neat!...and i really love that waterfall/pond!...how do you keep it clean?..filter system?...i love it!

I love him! My guess is that someone either a) raised him and he flew off or b) someone got him because they thought it would be cute to give their kids a baby duck, then he got too big and they put him out.
I could be way off, but that is my guess. He steps right on your feet as you are walking and when he saw the feed scoop, he ran like he knew exactly what that was for.
My husband found Willis walking on the train tracks when he used to work at Willis Chevrolet. (Hence the name..lol) He followed DH all around begging for food so he picked him up and brought him home.
The funny thing is, we didn't want ducks, just geese!

Do you think that's what he might be instead of mallard?

Redhen,
DH has a heavy duty filter system on it, but he still has to clean it out a lot. Gretchen and her 2 sidekicks have 3 pond they go to throughout the day, but especially love that one...lol

rouens are derived from the wild mallard. not sure which you have. (we have the khaki campbells too)

you mentioned the duck flying, ours don't fly more than 3 feet. so i don't know if that is how he got where he was or not. i can not believe that someone would drop them off somewhere. i love to fill up a wadding pool and watch the ducks. all of your ducks are so pretty and handsome.

Awww, how cute! Your little curly feathered duck reminds me of:

Five little ducks that I once knew,
Fat were three and skinny were two.
But, the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!

Down to the water they would go,
Wiggle woggle, wiggle woggle,
To and fro,
But, the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!

Down from the water they would come,
Wiggle woggle, wiggle woggle,
Ho, ho, hum,
But, the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!
