I don't know what's wrong!

I think i'll just use D.E. I'm not positive they have mites so option 2) feels risky to me.

Make sure it is "food grade" and don't get it in their eyes, nose, etc. Use care ... overzealous use of D.E. can cause respiratory distress (both in people and chickens). Wear a respirator and make sure the air in the coop clears out and does not have clouds of 'dust' when the birds move. I hope it works out for you. Please just keep it in mind that D.E. may not do anything of benefit for your birds! If things continue or get worse, then please consider investigating further into the cause!!

ok

Personally, I think if you are worried about dangers in treating your chickens, you should rethink using a substance that has the ability to cause lung damage in both you and your chicken. .......just saying

If you need to use a RESPIRATOR while you are using DE to dust your chickens to keep the DE out of your lungs, don't you think that is a clue that maybe the DE is just a tad dangerous to use? ? ?
