its something we all have to dne of my favorite hens had internal egg laying in march.she was so full of fluid she was having a hard time breathing and she could barely walk.I did all I could for her and than the next day she was even worse.i could not stand to see her suffer.DH husband put her out of her misery.So don't beat your self up.that was the humane thing

It may be that she was infested with worms.
