I need to give one of my two Roos up to keep the peace in the flock, I'm not culling I'm just going to give one away but can't figure out which one. OK, so one is a RIR roo of 23 weeks, he is a very good Roo so far, he's protective of his ladies but kinda gives my small dog the evil eye on occasion but is very smooth with the ladies, you never hear the hens squack when he does his thing.. My other roo is an easter egger, he's 20 weeks old and lacks the charm with the ladies. RIR roo doesn't let him near the hens so easter egger just roams around the flock and jumps at any hen he can get his beak on grabbing them by the tail feathers causing the hen to squack like a dying bird and running away leaving the easter egger with a beak full of feathers. I'd like to keep the easter egger because I want to eventually have green and blue eggs from his offspring but not sure if he will ever be smooth with the hens. The hens are always flocked around the Red Roo and just adore him, I'm just afraid the hens and pullets will stop laying or miss Red Roo too much if I get rid of him. What do you think??

I'm having the same struggle as you, except that I have 4 roos! I think you should keep the RIR. Unless you really, really, really want blue or green eggs. Or, keep the RIR and then go get yourself an EE hen-----or 2!

I vote for keeping the successful rooster. Good roosters are hard to find. I agree with the above post, get some EE hens, you will be getting colored eggs much quicker than with a rooster! And you can keep the colored eggs to raise up more EE hens.
