I don't like hybrids.

I have 7 heritage chickens and 2 hybrids. I feed my chickens 17% layer feed. I hear you are supposed to feed hybrids 18%, but is 1% much of a difference?

My hybrids are continually laying soft shelled eggs, small eggs with their normal eggs, and I just got a shell-less egg. They have access to grit, oyster shell, and I free run them in the afternoon. I might be doing something wrong, but my other hens are laying perfect eggs.

I've never had any trouble with hybrids being different than full breeds when it comes to laying. No idea what percent laying pellet they were getting. I just went in and asked for laying pellets though. I don't feel 1% would make a big deal. Are they still new layers?

How old are they? Where did you get them and did you get them as chicks? What has been their feed regimen since you've had them?

I assume that when you refer to a hybrid, you are talking about a sex link production hybrid from a hatchery???

I am not too sure how old they are, I got them from a good friend when I was very new to chickens. I got them almost a year ago.

No, they are probably 2 years old.

Have these hybrids always been poor layers or is it just recent?
