I dont think I am ever buying chicks again........

I think this may be the perfect way of putting what you are feeling. Few people want more kids the week after they give birth.

I would wait a while before making public proclamations writing off chicks, it could be temporary, or it could be you getting wiser about what works for you. Time will tell. I can definitely relate with what you are feeling, especially after losing chicks or a bad hatch.

I swore I was never having another child for a year after my second was born. I think that is natures way of helping you make wise choices to not take on more than you can care for. Now that he's older, I would *almost* but not quite yet reconsider :p

First time chick raiser, all went well, all are beautiful, only a week of fugly. But now... they are my darling pets and must face the world, and security issues abound. What are the odds I can keep them safe?
So that is my "what was I thinking?"

I had this thought this morning along with a mini freak out. Stray dogs, bears, moose, eagles, horrible winters, what the heck? I need fort knox up here.
I am currently looking at bear proof electric fences.

I told my neighbor I was worried about the kids touching the fence if I get one and he said they would only touch it once.

one by one I sold them or processed them...But I still go gang busters starting Jan 1st hatching like a fool LOL

I am in the middle of that today! I have 6 chicks that are just over 5 weeks old. My coop is not ready yet and it looks like 2 more weeks until it is. Contractor issues....

I have them in an 8sq ft brooder and they are not cute, flapping all over and making a giant mess. What was I thinking? Then when we get the coop done, will it be safe, coons, possum, fox, hawks. What was I thinking?

I am suuuupppeerrr STRESSED!

Have no idea what I will do with them for 2 more weeks, i just dont think the brooder will be big enough and I have NO WAY or $$ to make anything bigger.

Where do you have them at? I had mine in my house in Rubbermaid brooders until they got too big, then I made a short term brooder in the basement using the foundation posts and chicken wire and a couple 2x4's at the bottom so they cant slip under the wire and get out. Costs about $10 if you buy stuff new, cost me nothing because I already had the supplies.
