First time hatch! After making almost zero progress for 24 hours I decided to assist a little. Carefully chipped away at the shell around where she pipped, which happened to be close to the air cell, but not in it. I just chipped a teeny bit more and added some veg oil to keep the membrane moist. I think I can see her beak, but it seems to be under part of her, so she may be struggling to get to the shell? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Should I do anything else? Or just wait and see? (I looked through the suggested post here on assisted hatches).

Here’s another video. What body part are we looking at? It almost looks like the top of his head, but I see something white underneath that I thought was the beak.

With no visible veins and 30 hours after pipping, I would probably peel away a small (maybe 1cm across) amount of membrane and shell, around where it looks like you can see the beak. Then put it back in the inc for a while to see if it makes progress without needing more help.

Chicks are positioned in the egg in the fetal position with their head tucked under the wing.
You're much braver than I was with my first hatch. 🫣
I agree w @kattabelly the act of hatching helps chicks to build muscle so you don't want to do all the work. Take small . . . micro steps . . . then put the chick back to warm up in the incubator. Wait awhile, at least an hour, and see if it's made progress, then assist a bit more if necessary. Good luck!

ETA: I find talking to them to cheer them on helps. I cheerlead the majority of my chicks and they're more active while I'm talking to them.

Thank you! She started zippering her way out right after I posted, but now I’m worried about her legs. Is this spraddle leg? Her feet look way too far forward to me.

Thanks! I was playing chick sounds for her. 😄

It's just been curled up in that egg, it can take some time for everything to stretch out to where it should be. If the chick kicked its way out of the egg by itself then that will've started to wake its legs up.

I wouldn't worry just yet - see how it looks in a few hours' time, if they're up and trying to walk around by then.
