ask your dr. if there is an Alzheimer Support group in your town, they are great, they don't get the reconation (sp) they deserve but with all you have on your plate right now they could be a life saver for you, good luck marrie

There is a book put out by the Alzhiemers Assn titled The 36 Hour Day or somesuch. I helped take care of a friend that was afflicted and the book was a godsend. You can probably get it at amazon.com. It is well worth it.

Wow, definitely hectic for you. I have a couple of suggestions. My father's FIL has alzhiemers also (because i cant spell, it will be called oldtimers), they found a daycare program that comes and picks him up in the morning and returns him in the late afternoon on weekdays. He is really enjoying it. They live out in the hills of SanDiego county, not in an urban area at all. So you can check on something like that.
Also my DH had his eyes done a couple of years ago, things went very well. He now has better vision than he has ever had and just uses reading glasses to read the puter and a different strength to read books. This was a man who has always needed glasses to find his glasses. When he wore contacts and dropped one - well the hunt was on....but I had to be the hunter. LOL

Thanks for all the replies, makes me feel better.

On the Alzheimer groups, they are fantastic! I helped my Mom take care of Grandmommie for 4 years, and I used those folks a lot. That is one of the reasons we got Dad, is I have experience. But I utilize hubby, cause he is a guy, and helps with the 'guy stuff', lol.

I had my right eye done 4 years ago, and it is a simple operation. But the left eye is worse, so there is a bit more risk. But I have to do it, don't have peripheral vision, nor depth perception.

But you are right, Deb, He never gives us more than we can handle. I try not to think of them all at once, lol.

Alzheimer's disease is very hard to deal with. My family took care of my Grandpa, who had it for 6-8 years. I was 12 when he died. He was in a nursing home for 2 months before he died. The support groups are great, even as a child, I liked to go along! I also agree with ''The 36-hour-Day''(book). My Mom loved that book! We had a senior center near us that Grandpa went to, and when he got worse he went to a daycare. When you have someone like that living with you, you NEED a break sometimes! I loved having Grandpa live with us, so much that, when I got older, I worked as a CNA in the same nursing home Grandpa was in, and requested the Alzheimer's Unit. It really helps you to learn compassion! I will be praying for you.

Please call your Area Agency on Aging in your area to see what support groups are available or respite care - either in or out of home.

Please pm me if you have trouble finding them. I used to run one before early retirement.
