3 of our 5 hens started laying about 2 weeks ago, 2 Barred Rocks and 1 black Jersey Giant. They are 27 weeks old today. They have become very affectionate with me. They chatter and peck until I sit down on a stool and jump into my lap. As I chat away with them (in chicken speak of course) they snuggle in and their favorite thing is for me to put my hands under their wings and massage their body. Oh my, they close their eyes and purr. Our 2 Cream Legbars, get onto a seat right beside me, snuggle into my neck and want the same massage!

The laying hens get really restless and a bit cranky right before they are ready to lay. They seem to want this extra encouragement from me before they hop into the nesting box.

I will say, it seems to relive stress for them and, for me, it makes the stress of what is going on in the world disappear, if only for a short time. I am truly blessed with my feathered family.

Yes, just to watch them going about their chicken life and listening to their chatter works like a charm, so relaxing!
