I feel like a DA

I give my Silkies their feed 2x a day along with other food. My question is:am I supposed to moisten their feed? I currently feed them feed from Countryside(organic feed store). Feeling dumber than--------------- today!I read somewhere on a link off the byc blog that you are supposed to do that?!?!

They can go over to the waterer if they need a drink. Moist feed can ferment in warm climates or freeze in cold climates. Neither makes good feed for the chickens. I had a neighbor once who let his feed get moist. It fermented and his chickens got drunk eating it. Ever see a drunken chicken stumble about?

I am sure feed is meant to given dry...but lots of people moisten it or wet it to make it into a mash for them. I know I do it in the cold weather and they love it! But I would not do it in the warmer months due to bacterial growth.

I only give them enough that they can finish in 3 hours. Then it goes away.
