I finally got rid of the TV...

Today it will be a week and everyone is still alive!!!!

I finally had some time to catch up on some movies that I have wanted to see. I can still watch the local channels when I want. PBS never did anything for me in the past, but I think they took notice from Discovery. They have some good programing. Not great... but good enough for those rainy days.

The shocker for me is something I would have never suspected. Less commercials. Network T.V., except for prime time NBC, CBS, ABC has less commercials. Hmmm...

When my son was born and I decided to not go back to work we shut the cable off. Honestly it was because we couldn't afford it. The day it was turned off my dh and I had to get used to not having TV to watch. Really it was like and addiction. We started reading instead.

Now 5 1/2 years later we still don't have cable. We now can afford it no problem, but we just don't want it! We have high speed internet service and an account with Netflix. So if we want to let our kids watch a video or two that we approve of we can easily play one for them. And when the kids are asleep we can watch something together. I really don't miss wasting all that time switching through channels, looking for something to watch and all those commercials! The funny thing is that so many people think we're weird for not watching TV. I think THEY are weird for wanting to waste their lives watching it!

I get this all the time. Like its some kind of punishment or something. Oh well, at least WE'RE not at a complete loss when the power goes out. hahahaha.

Dh wants to get rid of it for the cost. I have reduced and trimmed the satellite bill down from 80 to 40 dollars monthly and he is still not happy. I dont want to have to pay to reconnect in the winter so I say no. The thought did occur to me to call them and ask if they can just suspend the service (like if we were going on a long trip) to make him happy...I dont watch many summer shows but in the winter, I cant live without House!

I told my husband when he starts to take me out he can disconnect the cable. Since he HATES going out, that is never going to happen. I refuse to go without "Deadliest Catch"

I ditched "satellite TV" about 5 years ago. We have an antenna/converter box and we get some of our local channels, not much worth watching though. We watch movies (netflix) when we watch tv, which isn't much. My whole family was mad at me when I turned off the satellite, but they got over it and now use their time more wisely (like being outside). Oh except me,..I have BYC!
