Whether or not they are a nuisance animal, it is not for anyone to basically torture them. If something needs to be done, the government should allow a certain number to be hunted. Deal with it officially. It makes me sick to think of people doing these things. I know some country boys who think it is great fun to shoot wolves and watch them suffer. I cannot understand that kind of cruelty. To kill is one thing, to make fun of it is disgusting.

Well, here in the Bay Area the thugs seem more interested in attacking and beating the homeless to death than in attacking geese. I suspect that there would be more community outrage and police action if the thugs were attacking the geese.

Someone needs to have a hunting season on surplus geese but the actions described are disgusting.

Some time ago we were at a lakeside picnic with family & friends. Some people on the other side of the lake were training their duck hunting dogs. My cousin said it was a robotic decoy they were throwing in the water for the dogs to retrieve, so we didn't pay much attention to it. The duck was retrieved dozens of times. After a while we realized they were using a live duck with ducktaped wings and it was beginning to drown. My cousin and I went over with several kids in tow and demanded that they stop torturing the duck and told them they were being cruel and thoughtless with one of God's creatures.

I think it was good for the kids to see adults step up and take action to stop cruelty.

Don't know about other states, but ND does have a season to hunt them. That's also why they make decoys to attract them in.

It wasn't a poll. it was reader comments at the end of the articles. I just don't understand the mentality of folks who torture and kill animals, and the people who just don't care. I have no problem with people hunting and killing animals, in fact I think it's necessary to control the population. From what I understand they gassed a bunch of geese in NY, just would be nice if they did something useful with them if they are going to kill them.

Anyone that kills non predatory animals for anything other than food has a problem. I wont swerve to miss an animal if I think I might lose control of my car. I certainly wouldn't swerve to kill an animal. It's sick, kids like that will have problems when they grow up.
