Good morning everybody, I hope you guys all are blessed and having a good sunday, My Buff Orp went broody finelly and I am soooo excited for that, I am feeding her some canned tuna and corn and giving her treats every day.
My question is: I put water for her but she does not drink like nothing!!!!!! is that ok? she drinks once a day when she get out of her nest for like 10 minuts?
can some one describe for me some broody behaviors ? and if you think I need to know something let me know please.

Thank you indeed.

Good luck Omran.

Broody hens are a little like women... I don't know if I'll ever understand them.

They are hormoanal! (sp on purpose)

From my experience with tons of broodies is that they only get off the nest at best once a day, seems to be easier getting them off the nest if the others have access to the same nest, when they want to "add to her clutch" they will kick her off the nest. During that time she will eat, drink, and poo the biggest nastiest thing ya ever did see. If she is secluded from the rest of the flock it will be up to you to take her off the nest and make sure she eats/drinks everyday even if it is only once a day. WHen i have a broody in seclusion I take her off 2-3 times a day. Sometimes you have to fire them up or when you take them off the nest, just putting them down in the yard usually doesn't do it and they just sit there like they are still on the nest. What i do is gently toss them in the air (not high) as you would do a small child that usually snaps them out of it and they go do their business. I think if you made sure they were eating and drinking once or twice a day they will be just fine. ANother thing you could do is if the nest is big enough to put a little quart size waterer in there do that, put it right in front of her and she will gradually drink thru out the day. Hope that helps and good luck with your hatch

I think you are getting fairly typical broody behavior. As long as she has access to water and feed and is leaving the nest at least once daily she will probably be OK.

From your post, I think you have chosen to isolate her from the other hens while she hatches but I'm not sure. I'll include a link where this is discussed. It might give you some ideas or information, although I think you will have the situation well in hand. I've seen from you other posts that you take very good care of your chickens. Congratulations, by the way.

Thank you all for all your help' here is what I have done:

1- I have my hen by herself in a real big o nesting box inside the coop, the box is about 30" wide x 15" deep and 15" high, it got a harware cloth in one side and a little dooron the other side.

2- Other chickens can see her but not bother her.

3- food and water are placed inside.

4- every afternoon after the other hens layed thier eggs, I get them out of the coop, and open her box so she can get out to do her business and all the coop will be for her for about an hour till she get back to the box.

5- when she hatch her eggs, can I leave her inside the coop with big hens or shal I move her with chicks to another location.

any other inputs are welcome.

Thank you al again.
