My avatar is about 8 and she had a spur that was growing, I would not remove it but it was curling into her leg and starting to poke it. I took a dog toenail clipper and nipped enough off the end to prevent the leg poke and the spur didn't bleed. I will keep an eye on it.

I had a rooster who had injured both of his spurs, and they came off. A year or more later, his spurs had regrown and were curling and growing into the back of his legs. His spurs were too thick for dog nail clippers. I ended up taking pliers and twisting each spur off. They did not bleed. He healed fine and his spurs never grew into his legs again.
