My new shotgun finally came in today and I was all excited when DH brought it in the house, until I remembered his hard and fast rule about owning firearms.

If you're going to own a firearm, you have to learn how to dismantle and reassemble it by yourself and you have to know how to clean one. I don't have a problem with the first part of that equation but OMG! I hate the smell of gun oil (gun cleaning solvent). Please, sentence me to three hours of continuously scooping the litter box, but don't make me smell that stuff.

I got thru the experience, but I think I can still smell the stuff on my hands.

I want a gun - never wanted one when the kids were little but want one now and want to learn how to shoot. We have a BB gun but thats about it.

My husband wants to get me some kind of girlie handgun.

no no no! You don't want a girlie handgun. You want a girlie shotgun.

Go to wall mart and buy yourself the ready to go "cloths" for cleaning your firearm. They are a lot less smelly and you can either reuse them and put them back into their plastic bags or throw them when they are used up.

Also there is a solvent called Formula 3, can not remember where I got it, but it is great for cleaning and lubrication and keeps the weapon from rusting. very little smell.

You do not have to use the smelly stuff, some people love that smell, I too do not as it make my skin crawl and my eyes water.
