I found my first egg today! My buff orp laid a pretty little egg and she’s just 16 weeks old!

Is this okay? I really was not wggspecting anything for another couple months, but found three stray eggs in the brush around the coop and got my nest boxes in order and she hopped right in! I’m so happy and proud, but not getting my hopes up for any other early layers. (Note, the coop wasn’t fully open so my girl looks much too dark in the nesting box but she is a buff).

That's awesome! Glad she's started to lay :) I don't know when exactly her flock-members will follow suit nor if this is normal for Buff Orps, so I'm not much help there, lol

Thank you! No pressure on the other chickens 😅, I’m just glad to have an egg!
Yes, the experiance of waiting for eggs is nerve-wracking! My mother's bantam hens still haven't laid their first, though bantams are less prolific layers than regular sized chickens!

How eggciting!! Congratulations!! I keep checking on my Silkie babes

That’s a big egg for a first one! I remember my buff’s laid the tiniest little eggs in the beginning. Congratulations!
