I found my rooster's comb in the chicken yard this morning...

This past February, the temps got down to minus 17 degrees, and froze my poor RIR's comb. Here's a pic of my other Roo's frost-bit comb:

My RIR, whom I call Big Red, got his comb frozen just as bad. Someone asked what they look like when their comb falls off. It fell off today. Here's a couple pics, one from yesterday as it was half off:

And from today, his new look:

He lost all his points!!

He is still a handsome boy!

Same thing happened to my FBCM roo... he has little nubs where his points once stood tall and proud.

OMG. That is so gross and so cool at the same time.

Is it wierd I want to bite it a little?

My wife found a bit of comb from our rooster this winter, but he didn't seem to mind. She thought he was shedding.
Is this normal or did he have an accident, or a disagreement with one of his hens? Everything grew back quickly.

Impressive. The loss doesn't detract from the RIRs looks at all. He's still very handsome.

Wow! It got down to -26 here and my roo only lost just the tippy tips of his comb. Actually, the new look on those roos is kinda cool.

You can see my poor roo here - his tips are still a little white in this pic, but that pretty much is healed now.
