I Give Up--they Win!!!

Heehee. I exactly what you mean!

Hubby laughs at me.

I accidentally bought a bag of Layena pellets instead of crumbles. My girls had never had anything but crumbles since they were hatched, so of course they didn't want to eat them. Took them three days to go through the same amount of pellets they'd eat in 1 day of crumbles. 'Course they had lots of freerange goodies to keep their crops filled, too.

So I went back to TSC and got the crumbles which made the hens happy... but then I still had a bag of unwanted pellets. What to do with them?

When the weather got cold I added some red pepper powder to a bowlful of pellets and added enough hot tap water to turn the pellets to a mash. OH BOY, did the girls love it! It's also a great way to add leftovers, chopped up apple cores & banana peels, meat scraps, gravy, the peas and corn the kids wouldn't eat, etc.

Oh, the other day Meijer had a couple wilted heads of lettuce in their "seconds produce" rack for a quarter each. I put them in an old mesh onion bag and hung it under the lean-to outside the coop. They had to jump up a bit to reach the bag, and it kept them busy for an hour!
