)*(@&#*()& I GIVE UP!

I feel your pain - only one survivor out of twelve serama eggs... but he is two days old now and doing great!

seramas are a pain to hatch. My first bunch I hatched like 5 outta 8, I got 3 batches from Frank and I only ended up with maybe 6 total. few others here and there 1 or 2 will hatch, but I just love those little buggers so I will keep trying. I have 17 in the bator as of today, so we will see what happens in 19 days.

Don't feel too bad. I tried hatching a dozen Seramas and none hatched though all made it most of the way. It's the only chicken eggs I had problems with. Every other breed, I've had almost 100% hatch using a still air HovaBator. I also was never able to hatch peafowl eggs after three months of trying, over 40 eggs, and over $300. Finally had to buy some peafowl chicks.

OK, sorry if this is a hijack, but why is it cheating to use a broody hen to hatch the tough ones? (or any of em?)

It makes perfect sense to me, I mean, I never had an incubator and my old flock was always completely replenished by either letting my hens hatch their own eggs or tucking some choice traded eggs under the good mamas in a special little brooder corner of the coop.... so ???

Don't give up on your incubating....you'll figure it out. Sorry about the recent loss though. Hope you get a great hatch this time.

Well I candled last night and it looks like 10 have something brewing. The other 10 were pretty clear. I'll check again in a week and hopefully there will be a couple more with veins. The towel over the bator has been working really well. Temp is at 101 and holding, and humidity at 53-57.
