I got a bator!!!!

You can store your eggs on the kitchen counter in an egg carton til you get a doz or so more to start your hatch, just tilt the cartons from side to side acouple times a day....do not keep more than 10 to 12 days tho your hatch rate goes down...I would not do a staggered hatch either since you are just learning how to incubate...it can ruin the second batch of eggs you have when your trying to get the humidity up for the last 3 days on the first batch of eggs......

Great! Thanks guys. I got my first egg in the collection today. One week for the bator! That means I'll have the right number of eggs around the right time! I'm going to set some of my silkie's eggs just to see if anything happens! Then chicks would be pure

That's the one I just bought for my first batch of eggs and 14 out of 16 of Lisa's (DipsyDoodle) eggs hatched. However, I had to watch the bator constantly and even though it was in a small bathroom with a thermostat controlled heater keeping the room at an even 70 degrees the bator never regulated it's temps - they went from 93 to 108 the entire incubation time. Must be a miracle that 14 out of 16 shipped eggs hatched.

So just keep an eye on it. I also learned that when adjusting the dial, you only need small turns. I would see temps too high and then turn the knob all the way the other way - then they would be too low and I would turn it many times the other direction. When you first set it up and whenever adjusting, try small increments of turns.
